Shashi Lodge BD Mymensingh
One of the famous historic palaces of the country is Shashi Lodge. It is also known as the royal palace of Mymensingh. Located in the heart of Mymensingh, the palace of Maharaja Shashikant Acharya is known as Shashi Lodge. It is one of the symbols of the country.
Shashi Lodge is located near the Brahmaputra river. Since 1952, Shashi Lodge has been used as a training center for women teachers.
Tourists are seen in this palace every day. Those who want to go outside Dhaka on a one-day tour can visit Shashi Lodge in Mymensingh at a low cost.
It is known that at the end of the 19th century, Suryakanta built a two-storey building on 9 acres of land in the heart of Mymensingh city.
He was childless. But his adopted son was Shashikant Acharya Chowdhury. According to his name, the Rajbari was named 'Shashi Lodge'.
This famous palace was destroyed by the Great Indian Earthquake on June 12, 1897. Later in 1905 Shashi Lodge was built at the same place by the next zamindar Shashikant Acharya Chowdhury.
In 1911, he made several changes to enhance the beauty of Shashi Lodge. The main gate of Shashilj has 16 domes.
Almost every room in the palace has similar chandeliers. There are also pools and large baths.
There is a tunnel inside the bathroom. It is believed that there was a system to go to Muktagacha through this tunnel. Behind the main building you will find another bathroom.
There is a courtyard behind the palace. After crossing it, you will see the reservoir. It has two ghats on its east and west banks. There is a garden in front of the main building of Shashi Lodge.
In the middle of it you will see the white stone fountain. There is a statue of the Greek goddess Venus bathing.
Just behind the garden is Shashi Lodge built in red brick and yellow walls. Next to it you will see wonderful lotus garden.
How to go to Shashi Lodge?
From Dhaka you have to go to Mymensingh first. It may take 2.5 to 3.5 hours to travel from Dhaka to Mymensingh.
Get off the bus at Masakanda bus stand. From there you can go by auto or rickshaw to the bank of Shasilaj or Brahmaputra river. You can also reach Mymensingh by Dhaka-Tista express train.
