An ancient village of Shibganj upazila is Kansat where Kansat zamindar house is located. The family of Zamindars lived in a village called Karijhakair. It is said that once the king had a palace called Kangshatta. The area got its name Kansat from the name of this palace. The original men of Kansat's zamindar bari clan came to the village of Kansat in Chapainawabganj district and established a settlement. Then here they introduced zamindari system.
