Kanshat Jaminder House BD Chapainawabganj
The zamindar bari of Kansat is located in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district under Rajshahi division. An ancient village of Shibganj upazila is Kansat where Kansat zamindar house is located. The family of Zamindars lived in a village called Karijhakair. It is said that once the king had a palace called Kangshatta. The area got its name Kansat from the name of this palace.
The original men of Kansat's zamindar bari clan came to the village of Kansat in Chapainawabganj district and established a settlement. Then here they introduced zamindari system. However, it is not known when they introduced zamindari. The original founders of this zamindar clan were Suryakanta, Shashikanta and Shitanshukantha. These landlords were anti-Muslim. They were known as anti-Muslims among the landlords. They engaged in eviction of Muslims in 1940. After which the Hindu-Muslim riots started. Later the Muslims of 12 Unions of Bajitpur village led by Shyampur Chowdhury house protested this fierce movement and filed a case against the zamindar house. As a result Shitangshu Babu, the zamindar of Kansat, apologized to the Muslim community. Thus the history of these landlords is embedded in people's minds. Later, after the partition of the country, when the zamindar system was abolished, the zamindari of these zamindar houses also declined.
Several parts of the main building have already collapsed. Cracks appeared all over the wall. Those concerned say that if renovated, this 18-decade old building can become one of the most visited places in the district.
In 1867, the house was built at Kansat in Shivganj by Surya Kant, the landlord of Mymensingh. 16 rooms in the house established on 2.24 acres of land. It is known as Kansat Rajbari to the locals.
Surya Kant's younger son Shitangsu Kant eventually managed the zamindari from this house. When Shithansu Kant left India after partition, the then Pakistan government took over the ownership of the house. After being abandoned for a long time, the house was preserved as an antiquities by the Department of Archeology in 2019.
