 Khaniyadighi Mosque BD Chapainawabganj

Since the beginning of Muslim rule in this region of Bangladesh, there is a history of establishing various religious institutions in this country.  They still stand as unique historical monuments in terms of architectural style and decoration.  Witnessing from one time to another.  Gaur was the capital of Bengal from 1450 to 1565 AD.  It was at this time that the historical Khaniyadighi Mosque of Chapainawabganj was built.  Khaniyadighi Masjid adjacent to Chhota Sona Masjid is locally known as Chaamchika Masjid or Rajbibi Masjid.

The mosque is in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district of Rajshahi division and about 35 km from Chapainawabganj.  located far  Built in Mughal architectural style, this mosque is believed to have been built in 1480 AD.  known  The mosque is now being preserved after being repaired by the Bangladesh Directorate of Archaeology.

In terms of architecture and excellence, the construction style of Khaniyadighi Mosque is well known in this country, but this style is believed to come from Turkey.

The size of the mosque is 62 x 42 feet.  The edifice below the main dome is square in shape, with a 28 feet long wing.  Along with the terracotta work in the Khaniyadighi Mosque, the brick design is more noticeable.  Like all other mosques in this area, the use of stone in the pillars and along the cornice is noticeable.  The main worship hall of this mosque built in Mughal architectural style is square in shape.  The length of each side of the main room is 42 feet outside and 28 feet inside.  Due to the 7 feet wide walls, there is a cool environment inside even in extreme heat.  The main room has a huge single dome.  There are only a handful of such huge dome mosques in our country.  3 domes on east porch.  That is, including the small 3 domes of the balcony, the total number of domes of this mosque is 4.

The brick-built mosque has a square prayer room with sides of 9 meters and east side of 9 meters.  × 3 m.  A balcony of size.  The roof above the prayer room is built in the shape of a huge round dome.  On the other hand, there are three small domes above the balcony.  The massive dome of the prayer hall rests on semi-domed transverse arches (squinches) built at the inner corners, the four main side arches and pendentives between the arches.  The three small domes of the verandah are constructed in the same manner.  There are three archways leading from the balcony to the prayer room.  These were similar in height and width to the single arches on the eastern side.  There are four octagonal towers in the outer quadrant of the building.  They were high up to the ceiling.  Two more towers mark the place where the prayer room and veranda meet.  The bastions are divided into several sections by raised piers.  The cornice of the building is slightly curved.

The interior of the Qibla wall is completely covered with granite stone slabs.  This wall has three mihrabs in semi-circular niches, along three arches on the eastern side.  On the other three walls of the prayer hall, stone blocks are placed in a sardal pattern at the raised points of the arch.  The sardal, made of similar stone blocks, extended up to the wall of the verandah.  The closed arches and squinches carrying the dome are placed on stone pillars firmly embedded in the walls.  The two east-west arches, which divide the interior of the porch into three parts, are also supported on connected stone piers.  The middle of the three mihrabs is larger than the two flanking mihrabs and projects rectangularly outwards along the height of the wall.  Each of these mihrab niches, set within a rectangular frame, has fluted arches.
