Hakaluki Haor BD Sylhet The biggest haor of Bangladesh. It is one of the largest freshwater wetlands in Asia. Its area is 18 thousand 115 hectares. Among them only the area of Bill is 4 thousand 400 hectares. It is spread across Baralekha (40 percent), Kulaura (30 percent), Fenchuganj (15 percent), Golapganj (10 percent) and Biyanibazar (5 percent) of Sylhet district. Geologically, it is located at the foothills of the Meghalaya Hills of India in the north and the Tripura Hills in the east. Because of the geological features of the high mountains upstream, Hakaluki Haore experiences flash floods almost every year. There are 80-90 small, large and medium bills in this hoar. In winter, the whole area becomes busy with migratory birds around these bills. Bills are getting smaller due to siltation in Haor area during monsoon.
